D-Link Canada Online and Telephone Privacy Policy

D-Link Canada Inc. ("D-Link") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains D-Link's online and telephone information management practices, including how D-Link collects, uses and discloses information collected online and by telephone. The Privacy Policy applies to (a) the shop.dlink.ca website (referred to herein as the “Web Site”); and (b) your communications with D-Link by telephone or email.

1.  Acceptance of Terms

3.  What Information Is Collected?

The information that D-Link collects from you can be broadly grouped into the following two categories:

  1. Personal Information; and
  2. General Non-Specific & Demographic Information (Non Personal Information).

Personal Information

Personal information as used in the Privacy Policy is any information that identifies you personally, such as your name, address, telephone number, email address and credit card information. 

General Non-Specific & Demographic Information (Non Personal Information) 

Any non-personal information either voluntarily provided by you or recorded as part of your use of the Web Site, including any transaction conducted on the Web Site, is considered to be General Non-Specific & Demographic Information. Non-personal information is information that does not contain personally identifiable information, such as your name, address, telephone number and email address, but includes the type and quantity of the products you purchased and demographic information.

4.  How does D-Link collect information?

D-Link may collect information about you when you: (a) use the Web Site, for instance when D-Link tracks your computer' s unique IP address or Uniform Resource Locator (URL); or (b) voluntarily provide your information to D-Link, for instance: (i) through the submission of forms or orders, such as when you purchase D-Link's products or sign up for a subscription to the newsletter; (ii) by responding to our surveys; (iii) by entering our contests or sweepstakes; (iv) by contacting us via email or telephone; or (v) applying for special offers or newsletters.

5.  What does D-Link use the information for?

D-Link uses your information for the following purposes:

  1. Providing Services: D-Link uses your information to provide you with services, including processing your orders and delivering products to you, or to respond to your questions or requests.
  2. Credit Card Processing: If you provide D-Link with credit card information to purchase products or services on the Web Site, the Web Site automatically provides your credit card information to D-Link's third party merchant account company, Beanstream, for processing. D-Link uses your credit card information to process your order.   3. Understanding Your Preferences: In order to provide you with the best online experience possible, D-Link collects both personal information and non-personal information to give us a better understanding of you and the demographic and geographic profile of our customers generally. The information D-Link collects is reviewed closely to assist us in determining the most popular products of interest to you and our other customers and better structure the Web Site to suit your needs. For instance, D-Link may use the information that D-Link collects to keep you notified of new products, special offers or our contests and sweepstakes.

    Similarly, by tracking your IP address through the Web Site, D-Link can better understand the types of products and information which are relevant to you and may from time to time, use this information to provide you with information or promotions which match your preferences.

    Should you contact us via email contact links on the Website or by telephone, D-Link may keep your comments on file so that D-Link has a record of your preferences and concerns. 

  4. Obtaining Feedback: From time to time, D-Link may send surveys to you via email, provide a form online at the Web Site or contact you by phone in order to solicit feedback on improvements to be made to D-Link services, including the Web Site in order to improve your online experience. You may provide such information or complete these surveys on a voluntary basis and the submission of personal information may not be required. Should you not wish to receive notification of subsequent surveys or polls, click the link supplied at the bottom of every promotional email that D-Link sends you to request that you not receive such notifications in the future. Should you wish not to be contacted by phone for such purposes, please let us know by email or phone. 
  5. Administering Contests and Sweepstakes: D-Link may also run contests and/or sweepstakes at various times. By entering such contests and/or sweepstakes, you agree to disclose your personal information for D-Link's use in administering the contest and/or sweepstakes, and as set out herein or in the contest or sweepstake rules.
  6. Newsletters and Magazines: D-Link may use your personal information to send newsletters, magazines, and other correspondence in electronic or paper format to you if you have indicated that you are interested in receiving this material.

6.  Sharing of Information

Your personal information will not be shared with, disclosed, sold, traded or rented to any third parties and is collected for our express internal use only, except that we reserve the right to disclose such information: (a) to any of our affiliates and subsidiaries that D-Link deems appropriate; (b) to any of D-Link's service providers, provided that they agree to protect such personal information; (c)  in order to investigate, prevent, or take actions regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person including D-Link employees, violations of any D-Link's terms of use, or as otherwise required by law or regulation; (d) to another business entity should D-Link plan to merge with, or be acquired by, that business entity; (e) to organizations in connection with a merger involving D-Link or a transfer or sale of our assets or business; or (f) in accordance with the terms and conditions set out herein.

7.  Security Features to Ensure your Privacy

In order to guard against unwarranted loss, use and alteration of your personal information, D-Link maintains a number of different security measures. For instance, we use an internationally recognized third party merchant account company, Beanstream, to process all of your online transactions. In addition, data sent through the "Secure Checkout" pages on shop.dlink.ca are encrypted using Secure Socket Layer technology, supplied by GoDaddy.

8.  Use of Cookies

"Cookies" are text files that are created by websites and stored on your computer’s hard drive. Cookies do not contain personally identifiable information. These files assist a website in recognizing a user’s preferences which may have been set by the user while on the Web Site, such as shopping cart preferences, usernames and passwords, etc. In order to purchase an item from the Web Site, cookies must be enabled on the user’s web browser.

D-Link uses cookies on the Web Site. A cookie created by the Web Site cannot be recognized or viewed by another website, thus ensuring privacy on the customer’s part. There is no way for a cookie to view or store any information from your hard drive, capture your email address, or pass on a computer virus.

9.  Links

The Web Site may contain links to third-party websites. D-Link has no control over such third-party websites. By clicking on a link, you agree that D-Link is not responsible for the privacy practices of such third-party websites and that it is your responsibility to be aware of and comply with such privacy policies.

10.  Retention of Information

We will retain your personal information only as long as it is required for the reasons it was collected.

11.  Access to Personal Information

At your written request, D-Link will: (a) provide reasonable access to your personally identifiable information that is in D-Link's records for a small administrative fee; and (b) use reasonable efforts to allow you to update or correct personally identifiable information which you state as incorrect to the extent that such information has been maintained by D-Link and if so, that such updating or correction will not compromise D-Link's privacy or security interest. You acknowledge that it may be impossible to completely delete all of your information from D-Link's records without some residual information being maintained due to backups or other reasons.

12.  Changes to the Privacy Policy

As our information management practices change, D-Link reserves the right to update the Privacy Policy as required. 

If D-Link decides to amend the Privacy Policy, D-Link will post the amended terms on the Web Site so that you will always know what information D-Link gathers, how D-Link might use that information, and whether D-Link will disclose it to anyone. Posting of amended terms shall constitute notice to you. All amended terms shall be effective immediately upon such notice. Your continued use of the Web Site or continued communication with D-Link by telephone or email after such modifications will constitute your: (a) acknowledgement of the modified Privacy Policy; and (b) agreement to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.
